Meditation examples

Meditation:  Joan Boney

Psalm 124 ... Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. 7Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. 8Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Pay attention to what they say ... thorns & thistles ... puncture you with their "teeth", with their words ... Flee ... escape from them ... they entangle you with their words ... don't try to teach them ...

I Cor. 15:33 ... Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Mt. 12 ... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Listen to what they say!

Mt. 12 ... the tree is known by his fruit. 34O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Leave them alone when they show their fruit is evil.

Meditation: Pam Padgett

Luke 12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

This man tried to provide for himself, to trust in himself, lay out his life for himself

God calls him a fool

"goods laid up for many years" - like trying to store up "plenty" of money for retirement, but don't even know how much is needed, how much is "plenty"

wisdom of the world

> trying to store up for oneself so don't need to depend on God ... instead of turning to God and asking what, if anything, he should do

> trying to store up for oneself as if God doesn't care for us

We don't know how long we will live, nor what we will need while we live.  But God knows all things, and is able to provide all we need.
