After God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt to go to the land God had prepared for them, HE told that HE would cause their enemies to turn back from them, and would drive out the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites from the land ...
Exodus 23:27 I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the
people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn
their backs unto thee. 28 And I will send hornets before thee, which
shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before
thee.
Although God would drive them out, HE would not do this all at once, in one year.
For God knew if HE drove the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites out of the land all
at once, the land would become desolate, and beasts would multiply and be a
danger to the children of Israel. So God would drive the inhabitants of the land out little by little as the children of Israel increased in the land they were to inherit ...
Exodus 23:29 I will not drive them out from before thee in one
year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply
against thee. 30 By little and little I will drive them out from before
thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.
God knew what would happen if the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites were driven out suddenly, and the best way to bring the children of Israel into the land God had prepared for them.
