It is very important to keep our minds focused on the truth. What is truth? Jesus Christ (the Word) is truth.
By focusing on HIS truth, we keep vain imaginations under control. The devil lives in vain imaginations for the devil is a liar and there is no truth in him. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (Jn. 8:44)
The apostle Paul tells us to do the following to control lying vanities (lying thoughts).
II Cor. 10 ... 3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (The Word);
These lying imaginations exalt themselves above the knowledge of God.
the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: I Peter 5:8
If you will agree with that thought brought to your mind by the devil, he will eat you alive.
So Peter tells us to: Be sober, be vigilant. I Peter 5:8
If you know the Bible, you should be able to recognize when a thought is opposite to the Bible.
So you take that part of the Bible the lying thought would go against and keep that scripture before you day and night until you really believe it and can act upon it, doing what the Bible says.
Example: Thoughts come telling a man how wrong his wife has been in her attitude and he should divorce her. What does God have to say about divorce? Not only should this man pray, asking God what HE wants him to do, this man should consider what the Bible tells him about divorce for the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
Mt. 19 ... 3The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
7They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
If this man keeps this scripture in front of him day and night and thinks of what this scripture is telling him, the word of God should reign over the divorce idea.
So it is with every temptation and every lying thought ... If you find the section of the Bible pertaining to the subject of the thought you are thinking, and you keep that scripture in front of you day and night and think on that scripture, in time that scripture will overcome lying thoughts. Therefore you will end up Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth
itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of Christ (The Word); II Cor 10:5
If the temptation is fornication ,,, what does God have to say about fornication?
I Cor. 6 ... Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. 14And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. 15Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 16What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 17But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Gal. 5 ... 19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Eph. 5 ... But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
I Cor. 7 ... to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife
If you are born again, you have the Holy Spirit in you and you have the power of the Holy Spirit to flee from sin, avoid sin, and serve God.
Pray for God to help you ... take scriptures concerning the temptation ... keep those scriptures before you day and night and in time those scriptures will lead you away from that temptation. This is so with every temptation.
Keep your mind focused day and night concerning what God says about the issue at hand.
