Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet
Yesterday Pam shared teaching concerning tradition of men ... She quoted the following ...
I Peter 1 ... 18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
tradition:
- customs and beliefs transferred from generation to generation
One tradition of man that I dislike is the celebration of birthdays and sending of birthday cards.
Yesterday was the birthday of a woman who lived in the small village where I lived as a child. She never forgets my birthday. And that makes me bound up with her in birthdays, having to remember her birthday and acknowledge her by either card or phone call.
Yet several years ago, when I sent this woman a godly writing, she asked me not to send her any more writings. But she wants birthday cards.
I did not acknowledge her birthday this year.
These things have a way of honoring the flesh of humans and binding us with those humans while they reject the word of God.
Jesus said this concerning tradition of men.
Mk. 7 ... 8For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
The important thing is sharing the word of God, keeping the word of God, and honoring God.
Man wants to honor man and to honor himself and often he does this through traditions.
(I've never been able to stand that song "Tradition" in the musical "Fiddler on the Roof." Prayer shals, wailing walls, and such are not in Bible and have no place in the NT.)
Another thing I noticed in I Peter is the following. Peter said: Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
God raised Jesus from the dead. God raises us who believe in Him from the dead that we should not continue in the ways of the dead. Everything we do should be evaluated by Bible and we should allow Bible to transform us into the new creation that we are now.
