Jesus said to God ... Jn. 17:17 ... Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Sanctify means: To be set apart
We are separated from the world when we are given the truth of God by the Spirit of God. This makes us different from the world. This puts us into the family of God. It is all done by the truth spoken by the Spirit of God. When we hear that truth from the Spirit of God we are changed and never to be the same again. We no longer fit into the groups where we once fit because we are "sanctified" by the truth from the Spirit of God. That person we once were is now dead. We are reborn by the truth, we are now a new creation. Where we once served our flesh, pleasing ourselves, now we are reborn as servants of God.
