Hebrews 10:38-39 ... Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man
draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of
them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the

Faith to believe, comes by hearing the Word God would speak concerning the issue of this present life. When that word comes, then the way to believe comes. We cannot believe until we hear for there is no real basis for faith until God reveals the Word on the matter to us.
We can't go about having faith in what we want to have happen. This is unsound. But when we have the word of God on the matter we have a sure foundation for our faith. And we go forward in faith, believing what God has shown us will happen, will happen.
First came the word to Mary. The Holy Spirit said to Mary: (Lk. 1) Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 36And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
...And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
It is not a matter of wishing something would happen ... One can pray concerning that which you desire, letting your requests be made known unto God ... Phil. 4:6 ... But after you hear from God on the matter, then you have grounds to believe!
Romans 10:17 ... So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Abraham heard from God ... then Abraham believed what God said to him. (Gen. 12)
First comes THE WORD, then we believe and our faith is based on the word spoken by God on the issue.
