1 Peter 2:9-10 ... But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,
an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the
praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous
light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people
of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Now that we belong to God, we show the praises of God. We do this in words that we speak and we do this in actions.
We are different from the world.
We no longer do as they do.
We no longer speak as they speak.
They recognize us as different and as the world hated Jesus, they hate us. Because they can no longer see themselves as good when we are reflecting HIM. And we do reflect HIM when we belong to HIM.
