Meditation: Joan Boney
I Tim. 6 ...
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
content: not wanting more or something different
Sometimes we have to make repairs. But to imagine something different and to embark upon various projects can really bring a lot of unnecessary trouble upon yourself. Often people try to justify these changes. But they put themselves through additional stress, usually without cause. And usually they bring trouble to others around them because of these projects.
We when focus on this present world and the things of this present world, we stir up our flesh. (The flesh profits nothing.) We are exhorted as follows: Col. 3 ... If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
When we belong to God we are "dead" to this world and its many desires and cravings. We are raised with Christ instead and our life is no longer in what we can accomplish on this earth nor on things we can possess on this earth. Now our life is hidden with Christ. When HE appears then our life will appear also. Right now we look "dead" to the people of this world when they view us for we don't seem to be worth much if anything. We aren't accomplishing anything. We just sit there, so they think. I know I look dead to those people who view me. I look like an old person who does nothing at all worthwhile. They see me as dead because that is what I show them. My life is not in people and things and achievements of this world. I am dead with Christ, crucified with Christ, raised with Christ. This world and all its things and accomplishments will pass away. My inheritance is forever. And when HE appears, my life with appear. But I have no life on this present earth. I desire no life here.
I Tim. 6
7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
