In Matthew 22 Jesus told a parable about a king who made a wedding for his son,
but none of the invited guests came. So the king told his servants to go and
get as many as possible from the highways to furnish the wedding. But one that
came was not dressed in a wedding garment ...
Matthew 22:11 And
when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a
wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not
having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the
servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer
darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called,
but few are chosen.
It was a privilege to have been given the
opportunity to attend the wedding of the king's son. Yet this man did not dress
himself appropriately.
We have been called by God, the creator of all
things. How much more should we prepare ourselves as we look for that which is
the come, trying to keep ourselves (our garments) unspotted by the world. But
it takes continual attention and humbleness before God to deal with cares and
evil of this world, so that we might live in peace, without spot, and blameless.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the
night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the
elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are
therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be
dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and
godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein
the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens
and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing
that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in
peace, without spot, and blameless.
James 1:27 Pure
religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the
fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from
the world.
