Calling upon God in truth

Pam Padgett ... teacher

Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

God is near to all that call on Him in truth.  Truth is based on what is real, accurate, right, honest and correct.  There is no pretense, deceit, or hiding in truth.

We come to God with what is truly in our hearts, not phony, contriving prayers we somehow feel we "should" pray (perhaps at the request of someone else).  When we call on God in truth, we earnestly and sincerely seek help we know can come only from God  .... The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16 )

We call upon God with truth in our hearts on the matter, not trying to hide anything or justify ourselves, but laying the matter out openly before God.  We come humbly, sincerely seeking God's will in the matter, not seeking to satisfy our own lusts.

2 Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

And we're willing for God to show us His truth in the situation, showing us how He views the matter.  It is truth from God that is important, even when it illuminates that we are wrong or need to change our thinking or the way we're going.  We humble ourselves and walk in the truth we're shown.
