Acts. 17
The Bereans were hearing the apostle Paul speak. But even then they went away and searched the scriptures daily to see if that being taught them was true!

In the 1990's, I was looking for a church to attend. I visited a small non-denominational church on a Wednesday night service. The pastor was teaching. He began speaking of Jn. 8, where the woman taken in adultery was brought to Jesus. The pastor said, "And when she was brought to Jesus, she was naked from the waist up."
I was very shocked. Immediately I took my Bible and turned to John 8, though I have read this many times. I re-read Jn. 8 concerning this passage.
Jn. 8 ... 1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
The next day, I called this pastor. I told him I visited his service. I asked him where it is in Bible saying the woman was naked from waist up. I couldn't find this, I told him.
First he said he couldn't recall where it was in Bible.
Then I told him it was very important to me and I asked him to please find that scripture and have his secretary call me with that reference.
With this, pastor became very angry and said: "All right ... it's not in the Bible ... Where do you go to church?" (Trying to accuse me.)
There were approximately 200 people at that Wednesday service. When pastor said this, I didn't see anyone take a Bible and check it. Most of those people just had big smiles on their face.
They looked exactly like the people in a dream God had given me ...
Poison gas dream ... In 1979, God gave me the following shocking dream ...
In
this dream, I went into a room where a meeting was going on. There was
one vacant seat on the aisle and I sat down and began listening to a
man who was speaking to the group. Another man rushed and went to the front of the room and said, "Stop ... wait ... can't you see ... It's too late! It's already begun." The
first man resumed speaking to the group. I looked out the window and
was shocked at what I saw. There was a tall, civil defense type pole
with a yellow warning speaker on top of the pole. Out of the speaker
was coming a poison gas. I knew it would kill the people and
shockingly the gas was coming from our own speaker which was supposed to
warn us. I looked at the man who was sitting next to me. He was
sitting upright. He had a big smile on his face. He was looking
directly at the speaker in an attentive way. But this man was a corpse. He was dead though he looked alive. Then
I looked at people around the room and they were already dead also.
And as I sat back in my seat, I felt myself falling asleep, dying as I
listened to the speaker.
What God was showing me
were the churches today who have fallen away from Bible doctrine or are
omitting certain doctrines in order to please the people and have big
church groups. And I was shown how if you sit there among them when false doctrine is taught, you yourself will fall asleep (die).

In this Wednesday night church group there was a man sitting there that I knew from building my house. This man made no attempt to check the doctrine. He showed nothing but approval and praise for the pastor and the church group. This man was an elder at this group.
I called him that week and spoke with him. He showed no awareness of pastor speaking evil. But he did go to the pastor and asked him why he said what he said. Pastor reflected and said, "It just came out." Pastor showed no shame and there was no repentance.
This elder continued at that church ... A few weeks or months later, I saw this elder at another church group where I was visiting. This elder told me he left that other church. He said they ended up hiring a homosexual as their choir director. So he left.
Homosexuals / lesbians:
Romans 1 ... 18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
We cannot stay in church groups were the doctrine being spoken is false. We will end up "falling asleep" and we will bring penalty upon ourselves if we do stay there.
