Men seek their own wisdom by reading books and studying. But real wisdom and understanding comes from God, not from our own efforts.
Therefore we read:
I Cor. 1 ... 30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
Recently I was speaking with a church goer who obviously does not read Bible. The subject of divorce came up. I told her people divorce because of the hardness of their hearts. She seemed stunned and replied, "I didn't know that..." I replied, "If you would read the Bible you would know such things because all through the Bible is information ... wisdom." Then I quoted the following ...
Mk 10 ... Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. 3And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 4And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 5And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 8And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 9What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 10And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. 11And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 12And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
Also I told her in the Bible we read how the earth will finally end and be destroyed ... and all manner of information is in the Bible. She takes pride in knowing and in wisdom but she does not read the Bible.
Of course all wisdom is of God by the Holy Spirit which she does not have though she attends church faithfully. But she does not read Bible.
