What it means to "walk in the Spirit"

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

The apostle Paul said:

Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.  Gal. 5:16

The fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance:

So to walk in the Spirit would be to walk in love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance:

An example:  Love lays down his life for his friends. Love is not trying to beat his friends.  Love is not trying to outdo his friends.  One of the fruits of the flesh is "emulations"  which means to strive to get ahead of others, to win our over others.  So we see that if we walk in love we will not be trying to beat others.  Therefore we cannot walk in love and do emulations toward others because it would not be possible.  Light and darkness cannot co-exist in same room.

This is just one example of how if we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.  17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.  25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.  Gal. 5

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12The night is far spent,  the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.  14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13
