Peculiar treasure

Pam Padgett ... teacher

Psalm 135:4 For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

Those chosen by God are peculiar treasure to Him.  One meaning of "peculiar", and the one which I believe best fits here, is "special".  We are special treasure to God.

Another time God spoke of His people being a peculiar treasure to Him is the following ...

Exodus 19:3 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

As we go about our lives trying to obey God and go in His ways, we're often seen as strange, and sometimes even evil, to those of the world.  But to God, we are special treasure, precious to Him.

There are various problems on this earth.  But we are precious to God, special treasure, and He helps us in whatever we are facing as we live on this earth.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.  6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,  8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:   10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. I Peter 2

Several years ago, I had a dream where a group of men were sitting around a long table in a beautiful "library" type room.  They were looking at 6 or 7 magnificent stones, examining each one individually.  Then one man said,   "Then it is settled.  We will go help her."

I felt these were angels viewing specific children of God.
