Delighting in God's commandments

Pam Padgett ... teacher

Psalm 112: 112  1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

delight - having great joy and pleasure

We are blessed when we greatly delight in what God has told us to do.

When we delight in something, it is strongly in our hearts.  We think about it, want to do it and try to do it, uphold it, and seek to be around others who delight in the same thing.  Our desire for things that keeps us from what we delight in diminishes.  We follow after those things we delight in.

I considered some of the things God has told us to do, evaluating whether I delight in these things.  I realized that as I have meditated on, and tried to do, what God has said, these things become a delight, to me. As we meditate in and do what God has told us to do, we think about these things often and they become strongly rooted in our hearts.

Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

And, if we delight in what God has told us to do, we will not easily go along with those things that are against what God has instructed.

Amos 5:15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
