Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? Prov. 20:6
Very few who say they are of God are faithful to God. Most will not turn when confronted with godly correction. Most will cling to their own way of life, thus "proclaiming their own goodness." And so many exalt man over God and therefore hide the word of God in order to please other humans and in order to look good in the sight of other humans. They are more faithful to man than to God. And some love things of this world more than things of God. Thus Jesus says: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Mt. 7
But a few do cling to God! And those who care more for the word of God than anything or anyone else are faithful to God even if it costs them reputation among men and wealth.
The person who is faithful to God recognizes the fact that the word of God is more important than anything else.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. Mt. 13
