We have to work at keeping our heart. And it does take diligence. We have to remain sober, not falling asleep, paying attention to what is said. So many fears come to us by that which people say on TV or in person. We put these fears to death by taking the issue to God in prayer and asking HIM if there is anything HE wants us to do and if we don't hear anything we rest in knowledge that HE will provide what we need as long as we live on earth.
We live exactly opposite from world. Therefore it should be no surprise that words spoken by world would need to be dealt with by us in godly way.
Paul explained:
II Cor. 10 ... For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
