Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet
After Jesus arose, after the crucifixion and resurrection, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. ... 11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: Eph. 4
Paul is not the last apostle ... Paul is the first of the NT apostles ... for Paul was put in the church "after Jesus arose" ... Paul is an example of that spoken of in the above scripture.
Just as we have evangelists, pastors, teachers in the NT church, we have apostles and prophets.
The primary thing Paul did was to establish doctrine in the churches. Even at the time of Paul there were some in the churches who were trying to put the wrong doctrine into the churches. Paul even told them that after he died he knew some would rise up in the church to draw men after themselves and away from the true doctrines.
Acts 20 ... Paul said ...Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. 28Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
Apostles in the NT church will uphold true doctrine and will speak truth concerning doctrine.
For example: consider the doctrine of remarriage after divorce. True apostles will uphold that which the scriptures state. It is very simple: Jesus said: Mt. 5:32 ... But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Paul said: I Cor. 7 ... And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: 11But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
Churches today have twisted scripture and explained these statement away allowing people to divorce and remarry and approving such. But a real apostle of Jesus Christ in NT church will fight for doctrine of Christ and will not go along with perverted doctrine. This is a primary work of NT apostle... dealing with doctrine in the church, similar to a judge in a court of law who rules according to the law of the land. But the NT apostle has the rulings of the Holy Scriptures and has the Holy Spirit to rule and he will present this to the church fighting doctrine that is corrupt in the churches.
Some are appointed by God to care for the church as apostle ... I Cor. 12:28
