After eating the passover meal with the apostles, Jesus went to the
mount of Olives. Jesus knew what lie ahead for Him and prayed, asking
the Father to remove this from Him. But Jesus also prayed that the will of the Father would be done ...
Luke 22:39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the
mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. 40 And
when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter
not into temptation. 41 And he was withdrawn from them about a
stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father,
if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my
will, but thine, be done.
It was the will of the Father for Jesus to die for us.
Although this was not removed from Jesus, He was given help. An angel from
heaven came and strengthened Jesus ...
Luke 22:43 And there appeared an angel unto
him from heaven, strengthening him.
After Jesus rose from the dead He taught His disciples and gave them understanding, that His suffering, death, and rising from the dead fulfilled what God had
spoken before by the prophets ....
Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe
all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered
these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses
and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the
things concerning himself.
Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto
you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which
were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the
psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they
might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is
written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead
the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
The shame, suffering and death Jesus faced was not removed from Him, but He was strengthened by an angel sent from heaven. And Jesus fulfilled the will and purpose of God foretold by the prophets.
