1 Blessed is the man
that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so:
but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Joshua 1:8 is a parallel to Psalm 1 ...
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein:for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
When we meditate in the word of God day and night, keeping what God has said before us, we become strong enough to do that word of God. The Word overpowers our flesh when we think on the word day and night so we "observe to do according to all that is written therein" that word.
And God says ... 9 Have not I commanded thee?
If we keep God's word before us, allowing HIS Word to be our counsel, doing HIS Word, we will prosper in all that we do ...
Prosper means: have good success
