Prov. 2:6

Pam Padgett - teacher

Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Wisdom is from God.  Man tries to work things out by his own thinking and based on what he knows, but God knows all things and His wisdom will never fail.

Recently a neighbor told me about a meeting she had attended regarding the golf course which is behind our houses. The golf course has been closed for almost a year and the owner is trying to sell it.  A group of homeowners have started meeting to put together plans for what to do if the golf course is sold to a developer who wants to build a large number of houses on the property.  The neighbor told of various people voicing their opinions and that there were disagreements, with some people wanting one thing while others wanted something else.

Later I was talking with God about all of this.  One of the things that stood out to me is that the way God is leading me, His wisdom, is opposite to what is being done at these meetings.

As they try to plan for the future, preparing for what to do if a developer buys the property, I've been reminded of  ... But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matt. 6:33-34)

Wisdom from God is for me to try to do what is right in the sight of God each day, seeking to please Him, and not worry about the future.  God knows and provides what I need now and in the future, and leads me if I need to do anything.  God has not shown me that what is done with the golf course will be a problem for me, nor anything that I need to do at this time.

Another way God's wisdom is opposite to these meetings ... at these meetings people are trying to preserve the way things are now as much as possible, and all types of works of the flesh (such as strife) are coming forth.  But God has told us that all these things we see now are temporary and will be destroyed at the end of the world.  While we're on this earth, we are to live in a godly way, in peace, without spot, and blameless.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

The flesh is easily stirred up to think there are problems when often there is no problem at all. But wisdom is of God, not of the flesh. It is God's wisdom I want to keep before me and follow, not ways of the flesh.  I don't want to get involved in what pulls in a way opposite to wisdom.  God's wisdom leads in ways of life and peace.
