The apostle Paul said:
Galatians 1
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Sprits bring to our minds ideas, messages, doctrines. That spirit speaking could be from God, The Holy Spirit ... That spirit could be from devils, the spirit of antichrist.
It is very bad to say we have heard from the Holy Spirit when that spirit was not Holy but demonic. Satan comes as "an angel of light". (II Corinthians 11) So it can seem like God when it is devil imitating God.
2 Corinthians 11:12-15 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Recently a woman in our church group sent me a message as an example of the Holy Spirit leading her. I was very deeply grieved by the message she was attributing to "the Holy Spirit."
For almost 2 days, after reading her message, I did no work on blog or podcast. I couldn't read any Bible or scripture. I just kept crying out to God asking God for help. And asking God to restore me.
After I was restored by God, I sent the following to this woman:

When we enter into strife with other people, devils often take this as their opportunity to move in and wreak havoc.
You might not have realized you were striving with this woman to get her to go see her daughter. But it became strife.
When you said to her: "You're wasting time. Go." You thought that was the Spirit of God. I think it was another spirit not of God leading you, commanding you, getting you to command this woman.
Then after we follow them, those "other spirits" tell us how well we did and show us scripture to make us think we did well.
I saw that you must not try to follow spirits at this time.
If you are reminded of a scripture. Write it out and consider that scripture and if it fits what the situation is at the time do that scripture.
In this other case where you tried to follow spirit, you basically turned yourself over to that spirit to speak through you and even to get you to act in a way that you would not have done otherwise. This is not what the Spirit of God does.
It is not that the woman was doing evil and you stopped her from evil.
You took over by that spirit because you thought it was God and certainly you would want to obey God regardless of the cost to you.
But it wasn't God. It was another spirit.
You don't know that your command was really the will of God for this woman.
The right thing to do is to make the offer or suggestion and let the other person decide. That spirit that was leading you tried to force another person to do something and did force her to do that thing.
Think about it and I believe you will see how strife was involved.
Where there is envy and strife there is confusion and every evil work. James 3:16
And the devil makes you think what you did was "good".
We do not take over the lives of people this way.
You were given no reason to think you were right and she was wrong.
You were following no scripture. It is just that you thought it was God.
(There is no evidence this woman tried that spirit to see if that spirit is of God as John told us to do in I John 4.)
I was terrified when I read what you did.
If that spirit gets by with causing you to do that, what's next!
Therefore the safe way for you to go forward is to follow scripture.
I did nothing but cry out to God for help after reading what you did. For the next 24-30 hours I kept crying out to God to know what to do and how to help you. Finally the plan from God came, which I sent to you. I know this plan will stop evil spirits from leading you and will keep you focused on "black and white" scripture and not on vapors sent by spirits.
If you do what I said, you will be stabilized.
You must not try to follow spirits at this point in time.
Prove all things, by scripture, and cling to scripture.
But know this ... the devil also can use scripture to try to get you to do what devil wants you to do. Devil did this with Jesus. Mt. 4

In order to follow the Spirit of God, we must be born again and have the Spirit of God living in us. Many who say they are Christians are not born of the Spirit of God but they have put themselves into churches by their own will.
Being born again by the Word given to us by God and being sealed by the Holy Spirit and following God by HIS Spirit is one of the greatest things that can ever happen to us. I will never quit speaking of the wonders of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8
14 But if the Spirit of HIM that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, HE that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by HIS Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

John 14:26 Jesus says: But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in MY name, HE shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 16:13 Howbeit when HE, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE will guide you into all truth: for HE shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever HE shall hear (from God), that shall HE speak: and HE will shew you things to come.
