πŸ’₯ 2 Timothy 2:16-17

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker.

People who carry to us profane (secular) and vain babblings, carry words that eat through us as cancers.  The words they bring come back over and over to eat us alive and destroy us.

Paul says, Shun their babblings.

This is what I try to do.  If I find I am troubled each time they speak, even when they speak the right things, then though they call themselves Christian, I know they do not have the same Spirit I have in me.

Only God can help and the Word of God saves.

Once I heard a woman say:  "You must give up all to be a Christian."

I shuddered.  She spoke right words but by the wrong spirit.

A fortune telling girl followed the apostle Paul about speaking right words but having the wrong spirit in her.  Paul was greatly grieved and finally cast out that evil spirit.

Acts 16

16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

This girl said the exact right words ... but the Spirit in her was not the Spirit of God.

We recognize the Spirit of God, for we have the Spirit of God.
