Enabling yourself to do the word of God

Juliett Walton ... Member of body of Christ

Proverbs 4 13Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

Hold fast is interesting when put together.

Take Hold

-To get hold of
-To take and keep; clutch; seize
-To keep from going away; not let escape
-Keep in a certain place; position
-To keep up; continue
-To keep on being firm, loyal

Hold fast instruction

Not easily moved; firm
Knowledge, information, given or taught; directions; orders

We have been given much information and knowledge from God on how to overcoming in every area of our lives.  It has helped me to look at some of the meanings of words above to make sure that I am doing what is necessary to succeed.

One of the definitions of hold is to keep in a certain place or position.

That is keeping that Word in front of us and think on it.  Meditating on what we have been given is described in the following scripture.

Joshua 18This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Also keeping that Word in a certain position would be to keep it above all else that would come to contradict or make it non effective.

We should guard what we have been given by God.

I am reminded of how Moses and Joshua were given specific instructions from God on how to move through the wilderness and to go in and possess the land that God had given to the children of Israel.
It is the same for us. The instruction we receive from God is our life.

I'm continuing to work on taking no thought for tomorrow  (Mt.6)... This one is a concept which needs special effort in order for me to do it.

But I know if I keep that word before me and think on it and make myself reject tomorrow when I am living today, it will eventually take root.

Joshua 1:8 is also what I saw ... keeping that word before me day and night will enable me to get strong enough to do that word and doing that will cause me to "prosper" and have good success.

I'm fortunate for I've done this on so many other scriptures that I know it works ... like David knowing those stones in a sling shot will work.  He'd seen it work.

I will end up blessing myself by doing this taking no thought for tomorrow.

Jesus said ... Mt. 6 ... 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow:for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

One of the benefits so far of doing this scripture is an increase of patience.  I've been surprised at how much more patient I have become as a result of trying to take no thought for tomorrow.

It is also very helpful to come to the position as Jesus spoke in Jn. 18 ... "My kingdom is not of this world."

This understanding helps us to stop striving for this world, properties, "rights", things ...

Col. 3 ...  1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:6 For which things 'sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

We will never be able to make this present world righteous ...

Like those who have gone before us we look for "new heavens" and a "new earth" wherein dwelleth righteousness.

2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
