Those who obey God are a peculiar treasure to Him

Juliett Walton ... Member of body of Christ

In reading in 1Samuel 8, the Children of Israel wanted a king to rein over them as other nations. Even after God told Samuel to tell them what would happen to them if they had a king over them, they still wanted a king like the other nations.

The thought came to me of how God chose the Children of Israel to be a peculiar treasure if they obeyed His voice.   Moses is speaking in the following passage after they left Egypt.

Exodus 194Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. 5Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. 7And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

Today we who belong to God and obey his commands are a peculiar people unto God Himself.

1Peter 2  9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:   10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

We as people of God are not like people of all nations of the world. Our king is God Himself. He fights our battles and directs us in how to we are to live. We seek His will and His way in the situations in our lives then follow Him by His Word.

To Him that called us, we are His peculiar treasure as we choose not be conformed to this world but to continue to renew our minds in the things of God…… the things that are pleasing to Him and when do these things we show forth His praise.
