We can try all manner of things but unless we hear from God by HIS Spirit in the matter and do what God instructs by His Spirit that which we do will be futile.
Zech. 4:6 ... Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Jesus says: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Jn. 6:63
If we are a child of God, belonging to God, we have been given the Spirit of God to dwell in us. By that Spirit of God Jesus speaks to us today to show us the way to go as we walk on this earth. This is called "the revealed word of God" ... because it is revealed to us by the Spirit of God which shows us the will of God. We do not know the will of God until we hear from the Spirit of God concerning the matter at hand.
The gates of hell will not stand against that word revealed to us by the Spirit of God.
Mt. 16 ... When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Peter was blessed because God had revealed the truth to him. This is what the church is built upon ... "that word revealed by God." That word revealed by God is "the rock" upon which we can safely stand in the various issues pertaining to this present life.
First, we must have the Spirit of God.
Second, we must pay attention to that brought to our mind by the Spirit of God
This is how we know the will of God and how we follow God.
And until we hear from the Spirit of God, we must learn to do nothing ... just wait.
