Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the
liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again
with the yoke of bondage.
When we were born again, we were freed to live by faith, having the Holy
Spirit in us bringing us the word of God and leading us so we are able to go in the way of God. We are freed to serve God by following His Spirit. Not trying to follow a set of rules by our minds. Not being bound by ways of this world and lusts of our flesh.
The devil also tries to put us in bondage to things which are not of God, often by bringing condemning thoughts as one of his snares.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing
that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in
the world.
We resist the devil by being steadfast in the
faith, standing firm in paying attention to what God has spoken to us
through His Spirit and doing those things. When other thoughts come, we can turn to God and allow ourselves to be
established in HIS will, our thoughts brought into obedience to the word
of God, that we might continue in the liberty Jesus has purchased for
us.
As HIS sheep, we seek to follow only HIS voice, the word that the Holy Spirit brings showing the way of life, and to flee others ...
John 10:2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of
the sheep. 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice:
and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4 And when
he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep
follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they not
follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of
strangers.
