Strengthened by Christ, not worldly riches

Pam Padgett ... teacher

Paul warned that those who seek to be rich fall into temptations and lusts which lead to destruction, and that we should flee from the love of money, being content with food and clothing.  To be followed after are righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness ....

1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Paul also gave counsel for those who are rich in this world, that they trust in God rather than in their riches, not being highminded, but rich in good works ....

1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Paul taught all to trust God to provide what we need.  Instead of being concerned about riches, we are to seek to live in a way that is pleasing to God.

I was reminded that Paul had learned to be content in whatever state he was in, doing all things strengthened by Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24), rather than looking to riches of this world ....

Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
