Jesus shows compassion to those who belong to Him

Pam Padgett ... teacher

After eating the Passover meal with His disciples on the night He was betrayed, Jesus and His disciples went to the mount of Olives ...

Matthew 26:30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. 31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

It stood out to me that, even knowing the terrible things that were before Him, Jesus continued showing His love and care for His disciples.  Jesus explained to them that they would be offended when He would be taken, and that this fulfilled what was written that the sheep would scatter when the shepherd was smitten (this is written in Zechariah 13:7).  Jesus also reminded them that He would rise again, and let them know they would see Him again, for He would go before them to Galilee after He rose.

As I thought of the compassion Jesus showed His disciples here, I was reminded of compassion (pity and urge to help) He shows to us as well.  Jesus, knowing our weaknesses and the temptations we face, allows us to come boldly before the throne of grace to obtain mercy and help, and He also intercedes for us ...

Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 7:24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
