In
the Old Testament, the people were not given the Holy Spirit of God but
the prophets were and the people went to the prophets to inquire of
God.
In
the New Testament each believer is given the Holy Spirit and sealed
with the Holy Spirit and goes directly to God through Jesus Christ, the
Word.
Hebrews 1:1-2 God,
who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the
fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by HIS
Son, whom HE hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also HE made
the worlds; (by the Word)
(We
keep ourselves today by the Word of God, causing ourselves to walk in
God's instructions, being sanctified by the Word and cleansed by that
which God shows us.)

(In the New Testament Church we must be ready continually, "For ye know not when the Lord comes." Mt. 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Those who are ready will be taken out, I believe before The Great
Tribulation and those who are not ready will be left to go though The
Great Tribulation. Luke 17:34-36 I
tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one
shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35 Two women shall be
grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 36 Two
men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.)

18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

in the New Testament all come to God through the blood shed by Jesus
Christ. HE is the passover for the New Testament church.)
