Psalm 132 ... Prayers to God & Promises from God to the Church

1 Lord, remember David,
and all his afflictions:
2 How he sware unto the Lord,
and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;
3 Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house,
nor go up into my bed;
4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes,
or slumber to mine eyelids,
5 Until I find out a place for the Lord,
an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

6 Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah:
we found it in the fields of the wood.
7 We will go into his tabernacles:
we will worship at his footstool.

8 Arise, O Lord, into thy rest;
thou, and the ark of thy strength.

9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness;
and let thy saints shout for joy.

10 For thy servant David's sake
turn not away the face of thine anointed.
11 The Lord hath sworn in truth unto David;
he will not turn from it;
Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

12 If thy children will keep my covenant
and my testimony that I shall teach them,
their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

13 For the Lord hath chosen Zion;
he hath desired it for his habitation.

14 This is my rest for ever:
here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

15 I will abundantly bless her provision:
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation:
and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
17 There will I make the horn of David to bud:
I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.
18 His enemies will I clothe with shame:
but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

In the Old Testament, God had specific designs for tabernacles.  These were symbols for what was to come in the New Testament.

The woman in Samaria asked Jesus where they should worship.

She said:  20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.  Jn. 4

Jesus replied:   Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what:we know what we worship:for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth:for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit:and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

In the New Testament, the house of God, the temple of God was not going to be a building made by human hands.  The temple of God is where the Holy Spirit dwells ... in each of us, the children of God.

I Cor. 3 ... Paul says ... 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

It is not a church building where God dwells.  God dwells in each believer, in each person given the Holy Spirit.

And Jesus says ... Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

I attended a secular luncheon once and was sitting at a table with 5 other people.  One woman began to speak of her church which was across the street.  I replied, "We are the church."  She was very upset and vocal.  She railed against me saying, "She said we are a church.  I'm not a church."  She probably wasn't the church.  But we who are of God are the body of Christ and we are the church, not the building.

Therefore we do not, in the New Testament church today, go about building a "house of God" in a structure of a building constructed on a property.  For we are the House of God, the temple of the Holy Spirit today.

God flourishes inside of each of us, the church, as we do HIS will daily.

12 If thy children will keep my covenant
and my testimony that I shall teach them,
their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

We are taught by the Spirit of God who dwells in us.  Thus God teaches us.  If we do those things, we will prosper (succeed) both in this world and forever.

I Jn. 2 ...  20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth...26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you:but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Heb. 8 ... 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord:for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
