Psalm 119:97-104 ... Prayers to God & Promises from God to the Church

97 O how love I thy law!

it is my meditation all the day.

98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies:
for they are ever with me.

99 I have more understanding than all my teachers:
for thy testimonies are my meditation.

100 I understand more than the ancients,
because I keep thy precepts.

101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way,
that I might keep thy word.

102 I have not departed from thy judgments:
for thou hast taught me.

103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste!
yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 Through thy precepts I get understanding:
therefore I hate every false way.

it is my meditation all the day.

What is it you think of all the day? ... your shopping list or list of things to do ... other people ... yourself?

If you purpose to think on the word of God all the day there are incredible rewards!  You will have success in all that you do in this life.  This is what God promises.

Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Most of us have a great desire to be wise ... Some go to school to earn degrees to be wise and to achieve, even above others, which is their goal.  Some are wise in their physical appearance, exalting themselves as they learn how to make themselves more attractive physically.  Some have developed various skills to exalt themselves.

But wisdom is from God, not of ourselves.  If we meditate on the Word of God day and night we will eventually be able to do that Word.  That Word will become more important to us than our own reputation, fame, money or anything else that humans can desire.

Some have such a desire to be wise that they end up damning themselves and bringing great shame on themselves.  They glory in their shame as they pursue their own wisdom.  They go about telling to others what they have done, thinking themselves to be wise.  Often they are fools and that which they are exalting in their works is foolishness and some of the people they speak to see this as foolishness.  In the day of judgement when they really see from God's view point, they will be greatly ashamed of that which they have done.

Some desire to understand, but not through God.  They expect to understand by searching their own fleshly minds.  Then they can glory in themselves.

But through God, through HIS Word, we keep ourselves from our own flesh which is full of shame.

We cling to God's judgments as we hold onto HIS Word, thinking on HIS Word, doing what God says by HIS Word to us.  Then we learn to glory in God and not in our own thinking.  We know our wisdom is from God and it is God showing us these things.  Therefore we glory in HIM.  We love to tell what God has done.  We exalt HIM rather than the flesh of man.  There are so many exciting, powerful things done by God both in the Bible and in our own lives.  The works are of God and not of ourselves.  We delight in God as we think on that which HE has done and as we share what HE has done.

Those who do their own will seek their own glory.  They do not seek God's glory but they want people to admire them.

Jesus says ...

John 7:18 He that speaketh of himself (by his own thinking) seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

He that speaking of himself, of his own ideas, of his own thinking, of his own wisdom ... this person seeks his own glory.

But if we share that which God has said, we do not glorify ourselves but God ... We are no more than a microphone transmitting that which God has said and done.

If we understand something it is because God gave us that understanding.

Once as Paul instructed Timothy, Paul said:

2 Timothy 2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way,
that I might keep thy word.

We recognize some things that would draw us away from the Word.  We know if we do those things or if we visit with certain people, we will go into evil and not good.  We know the truth of the following:

Proverbs 10:19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

People are on fire to talk ... and today so many ways make it possible for people to tell what they think.  And people love to give their opinions from their own flesh, exalting themselves in their wisdom.  It is so evil.

I am acquainted with a woman who keeps talking and keeps hearing people talk day and night.  She even sleeps with the TV on at night.  She can't get enough of people and the thoughts of people.

Recently I said to her, I know you do not pray over what you are doing.  (She professes to be godly.)  I know you do not turn to God asking Him what to do.  You think you know what to do.

She grew very quiet.  And then a very soft murmur came from her as she said in a voice so soft it was hard to hear:  "That's right."

She does not pray.  She thinks she knows everything.  She goes about telling everyone what to do, even when they do not ask her.  She loves to be wise and know everything and tell people what to do.  But she does not turn to God.  Her words are from herself.  It is a great shame.  And she waves her words as a banner before her as she goes about.

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

God said to me this woman is "self-righteous" ... thinking herself to be righteous in her own works.  Condemning and scorning others who fail to do as she is doing.

She told me this story.  She was carrying out garbage at the bridge center and another person from the center saw her and spoke but never offered to help her.  This story was told with scorn, thinking herself to be doing good while the one who didn't offer to help was doing evil.  This is a sure testimony that our works are not of God but are of our own flesh
