While watching news reports the morning after hurricane Sandy made
landfall, one of the reporters told of how, while
they were seeing what the storm had
done in one area along the coast, they looked up and saw a rainbow in the sky.
She said they all stopped for a time when they saw the
rainbow. This obviously got their attention very strongly.
When I heard this report, I thought of how both the storm and the
rainbow testify of God.
We see the power of God in the extremely strong storm. There was nothing man could do to stop or change the storm. The various elements involved in the storm fulfill the will of God ...
Psalm 148:7 Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and
all deeps: 8 Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind
fulfilling his word: 9 Mountains, and all hills; fruitful
trees, and all cedars: 10 Beasts, and all cattle; creeping
things, and flying fowl: 11 Kings of the earth, and all people;
princes, and all judges of the earth: 12 Both young men, and
maidens; old men, and children: 13 Let them praise the name of
the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above
the earth and heaven.
We also see God's faithfulness to His word. Although the flooding was very
severe for a time, it did not continue and spread to the whole
earth. God told us He would no more destroy the earth and all flesh
by flood. And God gave the rainbow as a token of this covenant ...
Genesis 9:8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him,
saying, 9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and
with your seed after you; 10 And with every living creature that
is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of
the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every
beast of the earth. 11 And I will establish my covenant with
you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters
of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy
the earth. 12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant
which I make between me and you and every living creature that
is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in
the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me
and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a
cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you
and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no
more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow
shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may
remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living
creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And God said
unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have
established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
Paul told us that God manifests Himself to all, the invisible things of God being clearly seen in His creation ...
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
