Difference in the work of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

God sets those called to ministry into the work as HE wills.

Eph. 4 ... There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.  9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)  11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, HE gave "gifts" to the church.  Jesus gave to the church some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers for the work of the ministry.

The calling of God is different for pastor and evangelists.  I've seen some who called themselves pastors when their work identified them as evangelists.

Here is a brief identification of the work of the ministry offices.

- apostle:  deals with "legal" issues.  Notice how Paul dealt with circumcision.  Today's apostles will likely deal with matters such as divorce/remarriage. Apostles today will try to get order into the church and help the church conform to scripture in all areas.  Apostles are similar to judges in a court of law.  In the church, apostles are always dealing with scripture (like law book) and ruling on various issues before the church as to what is right in sight of God, keeping order in the church.

- prophets deal primarily with the church, with the saved, helping individuals to get out of traps and helping them to stay out of traps.

- evangelist have heart for unsaved.

- pastor / teacher works with saved, responsible for those who are already born again.

Some of the church are set in the church to care for the church.  I Cor. 12

We know the type of minister by the "fruit".  I wouldn't know an apple tree except for the apple that comes on the tree.  When I see an apple on a tree, I know it is an apple tree.  The ministry offices are similar.  When I hear a person continually speak about bringing someone to Christ, I see a fruit showing this person's heart as "evangelist".

I Cor. 12 ... Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.  6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.  14For the body is not one member, but many. 15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 18But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28And God hath set some in the church (Some are set in the church to care for the church), first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

(Even the work I do here shows work of apostle trying to bring order into the church, defining the offices of the church and helping those who are called to offices in the church to get into the office to which they are called by God.)
