Ruled by God

Pam Padgett ... teacher

Psalm 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

While reading this I thought that many don't want God to rule over them, wanting to go their own ways, doing whatever they want, and not be controlled by the word of God.

When God rules over us, we don't live unrestrained according to the lusts of the flesh.  Instead we try to go in the way shown by the word of God led by the Holy Spirit, keeping ourselves according to those things.  When the Holy Spirit brings a word from God to us, we adjust what we are doing, as needed, to walk in the way shown by that word.  Because we seek to serve and obey God, we try to walk according to His way only, and not go outside of that way.

Paul told us that when we walk in the Spirit, we cannot do the things that our flesh desires to do ...

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

And I was reminded that Jesus told us to enter in at the strait gate, and go in the narrow way ....

Matthew 7:13-14  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

We don't walk according to various fleshly lusts, which is the way of death.  Instead we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and keep us in the narrow path according to the word of God ... which is the way of life.
