For the past 2 days I awoke thinking about the song:

Tell Me the Story of Jesus

Tell me the story of Jesus,
Write on my heart every word;
Tell me the story most precious,
Sweetest that ever was heard.
Tell how the angels in chorus,
Sang as they welcomed His birth,
“Glory to God in the highest!
Peace and good tidings to earth.”

Refrain:
Tell me the story of Jesus,
Write on my heart every word;
Tell me the story most precious,
Sweetest that ever was heard.

Fasting alone in the desert,
Tell of the days that are past,
How for our sins He was tempted,
Yet was triumphant at last.
Tell of the years of His labor,
Tell of the sorrow He bore;
He was despised and afflicted,
Homeless, rejected and poor.

Tell of the cross where they nailed Him,
Writhing in anguish and pain;
Tell of the grave where they laid Him,
Tell how He liveth again.
Love in that story so tender,
Clearer than ever I see;
Stay, let me weep while you whisper,
“Love paid the ransom for me.”

Tell how He’s gone back to heaven,
Up to the right hand of God:
How He is there interceding
While on this earth we must trod.
Tell of the sweet Holy Spirit
He has poured out from above;
Tell how He’s coming in glory
For all the saints of His love.

Luke 12:35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

As we wait for the day when Jesus returns in the clouds for His elect, we are surrounded by many who do not fear God but, rather, follow their own lusts and ideas to destruction, as well as spirits not of God which seek to lead in ways opposite to the way of God.

In the midst of the evil around us, we need to hold fast to what God has said, in our hearts as well as in what we do and say which testifies of God.   Light in the midst of the evil.

And we seek to do the will of God in all our ways and to keep ourselves in peace, without spot, and blameless. Staying awake and alert to the times and dangers, that we not drift off from ways of God.

Reading this passage of scripture, I was reminded of the instruction we are given several times in the Bible to "watch and pray" as we wait for the day of the Lord. Here are some of those scriptures:

Mark 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

I Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

watch - keep awake, stay alert, be sober

2 Samuel 22: 31-33 As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all them that trust in Him. For who is God, save the Lord? And who is a rock, save our God? God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

 Psalm 138:7  Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me: Thou shalt stretch forth Thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me.

Proverbs 8

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.
