Luke 16:13-15

Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. 15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts:

for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

Some of the things highly esteemed among men are approval, admiration, and praise from other men.

But Jesus gave us the example of the way we are to go ... doing the will of God rather than seeking to please men ...

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant (doing the will of the Father), and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient (to the Father) unto death, even the death of the cross.
