πŸ’₯ I Tim. 4:8 Bodily exercise profitteth little

There are many secular sayings and temporary fads.

The apostle Paul says to us:

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Renew your mind to that which is in the New Testament Bible.

2 Timothy 3:16   All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

I Timothy 4

But refuse profane (secular) and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Exercise yourself to godliness:  I believe we do that by reading the New Testament Bible and by applying scripture to our own lives, living by the instructions of those scriptures.

We collect scriptures which have been brought to our mind by the Holy Spirit and think on those scriptures daily, thus "exercising" our minds to the Word of God, comforting ourselves by God's truth, uprooting the teachings of this world, putting our faith in that which God says.

Joshua 1:8  This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

(Notice the promise of God attached to meditating in the word of God and doing the scriptures.)

Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in HIS law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

When we delight in scripture and do those scriptures, putting other ways away from us, whatsoever we do will prosper!
