Be not conformed to this world

Romans 12 ... 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world:but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

What is acceptable unto God? ... That which is stated in the Bible shows us that which is acceptable unto God.

Most of the world today approves and accepts sex outside of marriage.

But we want our actions to be acceptable unto God.

What does God say about sex outside of marriage?

We "renew our mind" by considering that which is stated in the Bible, especially in the New Testament.

I Cor. 6 ...  Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. 14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.  15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price:therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.


Fornication is a sin unlike all other sins for fornication is a sin against "his own body".

I Cor. 6 ... brethren. 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived:neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate (homosexual), nor abusers of themselves with mankind (those who defraud others), 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 
11 And such were some of you:but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

We seek to please God.  As we read the Bible we see those things that God approves and we go in that direction keeping ourselves under control by the Word of God.

I Cor. 7 ...  Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence:and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband:and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

What about divorce and remarriage?

In the United States today, you could go from church to church and speak with the pastors asking if you can remarry as a divorced woman and most (if not all) would tell you "yes".  Most would be willing to perform the ceremony.

But what does the Bible say about the divorced woman remarrying?  What does the Bible say about a man marrying a divorced woman?

Jesus said ... Mt. 5:32 ... 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery:and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Jesus says if a man divorces "a faithful wife", that man will be the "cause" of her adultery if she remarries.

If the divorced woman remarries, Jesus and Paul say, she will commit adultery.

Jesus says the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Paul says the following is a "commandment of the Lord" concerning women ... I Cor. 7 ..10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband:and let not the husband put away his wife...

And Paul says following to the New Testament church on the subject of the woman in the church ...

I Cor. 7 ... 39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

At the time of sexual intercourse two become one flesh.  (I Cor. 6:16)  Divorce papers given by man do not divide that one flesh.  Only death changes the situation.

And what about homosexuals and lesbians?

Romans 1 ... 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections:for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

We see by these three examples how different the approval of man is verses the approval of God.

And for those who sin, we have the following example of the woman taken into adultery.  Jesus said to her, "Go, and sin no more."  Jn. 8

Those who truly repent are ashamed of their sin.  They do not continue doing that sin.  They do not return to that for which they are now ashamed.  To return to this sin would be like a dog returning to his vomit.

II Peter 2 ... 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Heb. 10 ... 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses 'law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
