Although David was not permitted by God to build a house for God, but
was told that his son Solomon would build the house, David was given the
pattern of what was to be built and also made preparation for materials
needed. All of these were given to Solomon in
preparation for the work ...
1 Chronicles 28:11 Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern
of the porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof,
and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof,
and of the place of the mercy seat, 12 And the pattern of all that he
had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all
the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of
the treasuries of the dedicated things: 13 Also for the courses of the
priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the
house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of
the LORD. 14 He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, for all
instruments of all manner of service; silver also for all instruments of
silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service: 15 Even
the weight for the candlesticks of gold, and for their lamps of gold,
by weight for every candlestick, and for the lamps thereof: and for the
candlesticks of silver by weight, both for the candlestick, and also for
the lamps thereof, according to the use of every candlestick. 16 And by
weight he gave gold for the tables of shewbread, for every table; and
likewise silver for the tables of silver: 17 Also pure gold for the
fleshhooks, and the bowls, and the cups: and for the golden basons he
gave gold by weight for every bason; and likewise silver by weight for
every bason of silver: 18 And for the altar of incense refined gold by
weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, that
spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
19 All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his
hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.
Solomon built the house and all that was in it as instructed, using fine materials such as gold, silver, brass, precious stones, and fine linen in the hands of skilled workmen. (2 Chronicles 3 and 4)
When the house was finished, Solomon brought in the things David had dedicated and treasures, and the Levites brought
up the ark, the tabernacle of the congregation, and the holy vessels of
the tabernacle ...
2 Chronicles 5:1 Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house
of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that
David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all
the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God. 2 Then
Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes,
the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to
bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David,
which is Zion. 3 Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves
unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month. 4 And all the
elders of Israel came; and the Levites took up the ark. 5 And they
brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the
holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, these did the priests and the
Levites bring up.
When all was completed, Solomon blessed the whole congregation and spoke
of God having fulfilled the word He has spoken to David. Solomon
didn't speak of the building of the house boastfully, but as it was in
truth, that all of this was the work of God fulfilling what He had
spoken to David.
2 Chronicles 6:1 Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he
would dwell in the thick darkness. 2 But I have built an house of
habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever. 3 And the
king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and
all the congregation of Israel stood. 4 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David,
saying, 5 Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land
of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an
house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a
ruler over my people Israel: 6 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name
might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel. 7
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the
name of the LORD God of Israel. 8 But the LORD said to David my father,
Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou
didst well in that it was in thine heart: 9 Notwithstanding thou shalt
not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy
loins, he shall build the house for my name. 10 The LORD therefore
hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the
room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD
promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of
Israel. 11 And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.
Although Solomon was given and completed the great work of building a house
for God, his heart was not lifted up with pride. Solomon spoke of what God had done and acknowledged the greatness of God, giving honor to God.
While considering these things, I thought of when we are led by the Holy
Spirit to do something, and follow the instructions we are given, we
know God has done the work. We aren't lifted up with pride, but are
filled with thanksgiving and honor toward God for what He has done.
