After Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared to the disciples. While
with some of the disciples at the sea of Tiberias, Jesus told Peter
about how he would die ...
John 21:18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young,
thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou
shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall
gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. 19 This spake he,
signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken
this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
Peter asked about one of the other disciples ...
John 21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom
Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and
said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21 Peter seeing him saith
to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 22 Jesus saith unto him, If I
will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
It stood out to me that Jesus instructed Peter to follow Him.
Regardless of what we face in our lives, or what God chooses to do in the life of
someone else, we each are to pay attention to the Holy Spirit's leading
in our lives, following each word we are given, taking each step in the way set
before us.
Keeping our attention focused on the way we are shown, we follow the Holy Spirit
leading us according to the will of God for our lives.
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed
about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience
the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured
the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the
throne of God.
