* Dealing with vain imaginations and high things that puff us up.

Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet

II Corinthians 10:4-5    (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

***

Recently I printed the following scripture:

Exodus 23:20-23   Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.  Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for MY name is in him.  But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.  For mine Angel shall go before thee,

Before I published these scriptures, the thought came:  Is that scripture valid for the church today since we have the Holy Spirit?

The devil said to Eve:  "Hath God said ..."  (Genesis 3:1)

Therefore we must prove all things and choose that which is in obedience to the Holy Bible.

The first step is to start praying, "God ... what about this."

Are there any examples in the New Testament Bible where God used an angel to lead HIS people after they had the Holy Spirit?

I began looking in Acts.

Yes, God used HIS angel to lead Peter and John.

Acts 5:18-21  And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.  But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught.

The angel of God brought Peter out of prison, speaking to Peter and telling him exactly what to do during the escape.

Acts 12:5-11  Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.  And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent His angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

Also the angel of the Lord gave information to the apostle Paul when the ship he was on was in a very dangerous storm and was about to wreck.

Acts 27:20-25     And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.

For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,  Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

God showed vision to apostle John by an angel:

Revelation 1:1-2  The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and HE sent and signified it by HIS angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

Angels look like men... no wings.

Genesis 18:1-2  And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

These men who were angels, had no wings as humans picture angels. They looked like men. They ate and drank like humans. They appeared as men to Sarah and they talked with Sarah and gave information to her.  But they were angels.

We see the same example when the angels came to Lot to take him out of Sodom.

Genesis 19:1  And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

***

We have this New Testament instruction concerning angels and how they appear as normal humans.

Hebrews 13:2  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Angels look like humans, and you can think they are simply men, but they are really angels.

More concerning vain imaginations and puffed up ideas:

Religious men set up rituals in churches through vain imaginations that came to them or by reading scripture with natural eyes rather than seeing by the Holy Spirit, and many in churches follow these rituals even to this day.

* Thinking "the Lord's supper" (communion) to be eating crackers and drinking grape juice is one of the most wide spread rituals in the churches today.

"The Lord's supper" is the partaking of the Word of God ... eating and drinking the Word of God ... applying the Word of God to your life in an appropriate way.

I Corinthians 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

(So eat the Word of God, examining yourself.)

I Corinthians 11:31  For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

(We judge ourselves by the Word of God as we read and hear, making appropriate corrections to our way of life.)

Vain imaginations come into our hearts anytime we allow ourselves to imagine things that are not true.

It is a continual work in us to uproot false things from our heart. We do this by prayer and by looking into truth by the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. We must diligently search for truth, separating the falsehoods from our thinking.

There is a college baseball team where they began thinking it was good luck to wear bananas. Their fans picked up this lie and wore bananas on their heads when they attended the baseball games. (Arkansas: 2018)

In watching movies, you often hear actors speak of their "lucky" sweater ... "lucky" scarf ... "lucky" tie ...

People in restaurants click their drink glasses together "for luck".

In the Bible such things as these superstition are called "witchcraft".

Galatians 5:19-21  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance (debating), emulations (trying to show yourself better than another), wrath (anger with malice), strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Paul says:  II Timothy 2:15-17  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker:

I Timothy 1:4  Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

fables: fictitious tale, often passed from one generation to another

II Timothy 1:7  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

People who follow superstitions follow devils, for God has not given us a spirit of fear.  And many of the superstitions have a touch of insanity attached which sane people laugh at when they see people engaging in these fantastic acts.  (such as the baseball team from Arkansas whose fans wore bananas on their heads at game for luck.)

They are afraid if they do not do their superstition, they will fail.

Football players often cross themselves before going onto the field.  Kickers often cross themselves before attempting to kick the field goal.

The amazing thing is this:  They seem blinded to the times they cross themselves and miss the field goal.  They just continue in their superstition.

The bride at the wedding often will throw her bouquet at the end of the ceremony and the superstition is the woman who catches the flowers will be next to marry.

People in USA often eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day "for luck."

I Timothy 4:7    But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

All these traditions of men render the word of God void.

I Timothy 4:10    For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

I Timothy 4:16    Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

II Timothy 3:16-17    All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
