Luke 19 … v. 28   HE (Jesus) went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

… vv. 41-43    And when HE was come near, HE beheld the city, and wept over it,  Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,  And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

(Jerusalem would be leveled to the ground.)

In Matthew 24, Jesus speaks of the destruction of the temple that is at Jerusalem.

1-2    And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and His disciples came to Him for to shew Him the buildings of the temple.

And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

God showed the apostle John the new heavens and the new earth … the new Jerusalem … wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Revelation 21:1-5    And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and HE will dwell with them, and they shall be HIS people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

And HE that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

Jesus says:    Heaven and earth shall pass away: but MY words shall not pass away.  (Luke 21:33)

So what should we cling to?

That which we can see with our natural eye, this heaven and earth?  (NO! for it will be destroyed.)

Or do we cling to the Word of God which endures forever?

As I grow older, I seem to want to consolidate material things and have less in a more compact space.  I don't want to be in a position where I have to care for these things.  I mentioned this to my realtor who is about my age and she quickly responded that she had gotten to be the same way.

How do we prepare to be ready for the return of Jesus?

Jesus says:  Luke 21:34-36   And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting (over indulgence), and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

Watch
(pay attention to our attitude … keep ourselves in love of God especially toward others) ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

(Prayer is so important … start day with prayer … pray throughout day … pray at end of day … Prayer connects us to God in a special way.)

Be very watchful over your own life keeping things "spaced" so you don't overdo!  If we are tired, we can rapidly fall into sin.  Make your way of life so you have extra time for rest and prayer and godly reading.  Our reaction to others will be affected by our choice of life.  Know what is really important for that day in which we live.

Everything we can see with our natural eye will be destroyed so put even more focus on that which cannot be destroyed.

Seriously consider what I say and restructure your life, making each day a habit to cement your connection to God, going in God's way that day.

II Peter 3:10-14    But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Starting today and continuing daily for the remainder of our lives on this earth we should focus on living prayerfully, keeping ourselves in peace through prayer, correcting our attitude as needed daily, and living blameless in the sight of God.
