The apostle Peter told us 3 things to be diligent to do to keep ourselves ready for the return of Jesus:
2 Peter 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of HIM in peace, without spot, and blameless.
Also we are far better off in this life to live this way, even if Jesus does not return during our lifetime.
Don't we have a better life now than we did when we were always fussing about things and fearful and living in dread over what might happen?
To diligently live in peace, takes us another way from the way the people of this world live.
They are often striving and arguing with each other and trying to outdo one another. (Don't we remember when we did this? And now that we have turned from this way of the flesh, we wouldn't want to go back would we? Now we try to help people and that is completely different.)
And living in the fears of this world is a terrible way of life. Being afraid of what might happen tomorrow and trying to store up things for tomorrow just in case something happens is a hard way of life. (Instead we pray over each concern and if God shows us to do something we follow what HE shows us and thereby live in peace, taking each concern to God in prayer and thereby putting our trust in God.)
We don't go out into the streets and protest as the people of this world do. Instead we talk things over with God and we know our help is from God who created heaven and earth. And then after we speak with God peace is the fruit. (Each time we are stirred up and frightened we talk with God and God calms us and assures us and we have immediately peace through faith in God WHO says to us: "I will never fail thee nor forsake thee." Josh. 1:5 & Heb. 13:5)
And we have this great promise from the Bible.
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to HIS riches in glory by Christ Jesus (The Word).
Which of us would choose to go back to the life we had when we trusted in ourselves, in our own thinking?
God knows future, and now we trust in HIM.
The elect of God have been waiting for the return of Jesus for 2,000 years and Jesus will return sometime but only God knows the hour of HIS return.
But HE will return.
In the meantime we keep ourselves so that if HE returns in our lifetime HE will find us to be living in peace, without spot and blameless ... and this causes us to also have a much better way of life as we wait for HIM.
2 Peter 3:10-13
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
