* Jesus says we are not defiled by the foods we eat. We are defiled by that which goes into our hearts.

Mark 7   Jesus said:

15  There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

18 And HE saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also?

Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

20 And HE said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Paul said to Timothy:

I Timothy 4:7-8   But refuse profane (secular sayings) and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.  For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

(Comments by Joan Boney:)

On television commercials we see many "profane sayings".

We should not allow ourselves to be put in bondage to sayings of this world, of worship of science and such.

For God leads us and cares for us as long as HE chooses to leave us on this present earth.

People of this world have really come to worship science and to put their trust in science, thinking that to be wise and to make themselves seem wise to other people.

Therefore:

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.  (James 1:5)

If we allow a saying of this world to go into our hearts, that saying will put us into bondage to this world's wisdom and will defile us.

That natural food which we put into our mouths will not defile us for it does not go into our heart but into our stomach.

That which goes into our heart defiles us when it is from this present world and only a saying of man from his own wisdom.

Proverbs 3:1  God says:   My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep MY commandments:

Proverbs 4:20-23  God says:

My son, attend to MY words; incline thine ear unto MY sayings.
Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
