* Choosing to walk in the way of the Spirit of God.

Romans 8

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Galatians 5

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 8

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

So we choose to go in the way of the Spirit, keeping our flesh crucified by that word from the Spirit of God as we go that way.

To do this will cause the flesh to suffer because it does not get what it wants.

We magnify God by choosing to go in the way of the Spirit, exalting the Word of God over our own flesh.

Paul tells us:

I Corinthians 6

12   All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

We can choose to do things which might be troublesome to us or that might upset us needlessly or cause us to be angry or cause us to puff up with pride.   We are "free" to do some of these things.  But these things are not "expedient" to us:  (not proper, unnecessary,  not suitable)

And if we take in anger, pride, fear from that which we read or watch on TV, we will have to deal with such in spiritual ways, overcoming through the Word which comes by God's spirit.

We must not allow these things to live inside of us unattended.  We must be alert to overcome those secular things which we choose to read or hear.

Paul tells Timothy:

I Timothy 4

7 But refuse profane (secular sayings) and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
