1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
2 And David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
3 And David took more wives at Jerusalem:and David begat more sons and daughters. 4 Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, 5 And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet, 6 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia, 7 And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David.
(The Philistines were seeking David to fight against David.)
And David heard of it, and went out against them. 9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
10 And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there.
Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters:therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
13 And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
14 Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. 15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle:for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
16 David therefore did as God commanded him:and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

David made no agreement with the gods of the Philistines but rather destroyed them.
12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire
One mistake made by the various kings of Judah and kings of Israel ... even with those kings who overall did right in the sight of God ... they often failed to destroy the groves and the high places set up to worship other gods. David did not make this mistake.
We, also, must destroy the gods of the people. As they present their gods, their superstitions and their fleshly sayings, when such conflicts with what we know to be truth of God, we counter those sayings with truth.
One thing I have often heard people say is this: "One sure thing that comes is death and taxes." (The person speaking considers himself to be saying a wise, clever thing.)
But some will not die, says Paul.
I Cor. 15 ... 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
When they speak their sayings contrary to what I know to be truth from God, I speak the truth from God, destroying their god.

When the Philistines came out against David, David asked God what to do.
Then the Philistines came out a second time ... David asked God again what to do and this time God had another plan for David to use.
It is a common mistake to fail to ask God what to do the second time the problem happens.

God caused them to be afraid of David.
17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
When we speak the word of God, that word causes them to be afraid of us too. For they see we are not approving them as other people do ... we are not trying to please them and make them to feel good about their wise sayings as others do ... we are raising up another God before them ... and they come to fear speaking of their wisdom to us, for we might not go along with them ... we cut down their gods by speaking truth of God.
Deuteronomy 28 ...
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. 5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. 6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.
7 The Lord (THE WORD) shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face:they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
(When you speak the Word of God on the matter they will run away from you. One reason you do not speak the Word of God is you do not want to "offend" them, you do not want them to flee. But when you speak the Word of God they will flee from you.)
8 The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
9 The Lord (The Word) shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in His ways.
10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11 And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee. 12 The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand:and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13 And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
There is a Catholic woman who used to call me every week or so asking me to go to lunch with her. I usually went with her when she called me. But when I spoke of God, she began to grimace. She didn't want to hear what God was doing in my life. She wanted me to be in charge of my life, not God. She wanted to honor man, not God. She wanted to hear what man was accomplishing, not God.
I wanted to be free from her.
God gave me a message to speak to her telling her she was going a "totally wrong way" ... (She views herself as very wise, always knowing that which is wise, but not calling on God for wisdom.)
She stopped calling me... for a few weeks ...
(After Jesus spoke, the devil departed from Jesus "for a season". Lk. 4:13)
Then she became bold in herself again and called me, thinking to show herself righteous. (God told me she was "self-righteous")
She proudly told an abominable story concerning a Catholic bishop who agreed to speak a mass over her recently dead mother. The mother (and father who died a few years ago) had given buildings and money to various institutions, being very rich. She was so proud this man in a high position of men, had agreed to speak over her recently dead mother. She also said her mother wanted bishop to speak a mass over her when she died.
It was awful in every way. I sent email next day telling her how sorry I was she told this bishop story. It is abomination and filled with pride of men and is terrible. (cutting down one of her gods) I haven't heard from her since. That was several months ago.
When we cut down their gods, they will flee from us and they will also be afraid to speak in front of us for we might object rather than praise them. They are blind to things of God and don't know what it is they stumble over just as it says in Proverbs 4...
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked,
and go not in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it,
and pass away.
16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief;
and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness,
and drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light,
that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness:
they know not at what they stumble.
