Joan Boney ... apostle/prophet
In the OT, when they had a problem, they often went to a prophet of God to see what they should do.
Example: II Kings 19 ... 1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord. 2 And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. 3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy:for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. 4 It may be the Lord thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the Lord thy God hath heard:wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left. 5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. 7 Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Jesus Christ came in the flesh in the form of a man and because of Jesus everything changed!
Jesus became the sacrifice so after HIS sacrifice we no longer sacrificed animals for our sins as they did in OT. The blood of Jesus is now our sacrifice. We are delivered from sins by the price paid by Jesus for our sins.
And after Jesus arose back into heaven where HE sits at the right hand of God, THE FATHER, we were given the spirit of Jesus, therefore we no longer go to a prophet to know the will of God. The Spirit of God, the spirit of Jesus, THE HOLY SPIRIT, dwells in each believer to teach us all things, to remind us of all that Jesus has said to us, to guide us into all truth, and to show us things to come. Jn. 14:26 & Jn. 16:13
We still have prophets (and apostles) in the NT church today, and from time to time God will give a NT prophet a message for us, but we do not go to a prophet to find out the will of God for us. Now we go directly to God in prayer, asking God what we should do. Often God will give us the answer through the Holy Spirit as we have ideas brought to our mind concerning the matter at hand.
After we pray God might choose to cause another human, perhaps one of HIS prophets, to come to us with the answer. But we do not go to the NT prophet to seek the answer. We go directly to God.
Proof that apostles and prophets still exist in the NT church.
Eph. 4 ... after Jesus was crucified and arose ... and after the Holy Spirit was given to the individuals who belong to God ...
Jesus gave "gifts" to the church ...
11 And HE gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Paul was not the last apostle. Paul is an example of the first apostle given to the church after Jesus arose. Paul never saw Jesus in the flesh when Jesus walked on this earth in the form of a human. After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, Paul was persecuting Christians who professed Jesus as the Christ. Paul was enroute to Damascus to catch and bind Christians when Jesus spoke to Paul on the road to Damascus and Jesus revealed HIMSELF at that time to Paul. Acts 9
This is exactly the same way Jesus reveals HIMSELF to us ... and our life is changed after that ... We are now "a new creature", born of the Spirit of God, after Jesus is revealed to us by God.
In Paul's case, God had called Paul to be an apostle/teacher ... and that is the work Paul did after God revealed HIMSELF to Paul.
Though Paul was an apostle and had the Holy Spirit in him, God choose to send a NT prophet to Paul to show him what would come to him at Jerusalem.
Acts 21 ... 8 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea:and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. 9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. 10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. 11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.
Here we see in the Bible an example of a NT prophet working in the office of prophet in the NT church.
Paul was a great man of God and called by God to be an apostle and a teacher to the NT church and yet God chose to send a prophet to show Paul what would happen to him at Jerusalem.
So we see prophets still exist in NT church today ... Jesus did not eliminate the prophets... Jesus added the gift of the Holy Ghost to seal each individual who is really of God. (Eph. 1)
Because of the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit, and the sacrifice of Jesus, now we have direct access to God and we go directly to God in prayer.
