Numbers 25:16-18    And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,  Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

For they vex you with their wiles,

There are some people who "vex" us each time we are around them.

vex:  make us feel annoyed, frustrated, worried ... 

Often they speak things which they have cunningly formed from their own minds ... their "wiles".

They trouble us with their words and we trouble them when we speak the truth from God.

By God's word, we "smite" them:

smite:  deliver a heavy blow or stroke

Amos 3:3    Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Often they come to us "in the name of the Lord", identifying themselves as one of us, as the church ...

But when they show a different spirit, they can't be one of us.

Eventually they will depart from us ... or we depart from them.

I John 2:19   They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

Numbers 33:55    But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.  Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

If we will diligently speak the Word given to us by God, we will drive them out ... Those who are not of God will  leave us.

But if we withhold the Word given by God, they will remain and they will be as thorns in our sides and as pricks in our eyes.  And God will be against us as we honor those not of God.

II Corinthians 6:14-18    Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean; and I will receive you.

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
