When Jesus asked HIS disciples "who" they thought HE was, they responded:
Matthew 16:13-18 Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
HE saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Peter was blessed because it was God who had revealed "this Word" to him.
It is "that Word" that is revealed by God upon which we stand today. The gates of hell will not stand against that Word which God reveals to us concerning the matter at hand in our lives today.

Working of the Holy Spirit:
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

As long as we live on this earth, and continue in things of God, the Holy Spirit, who is in us, brings us the truth in the situations of this life as we deal with such.
By "that Word" brought to our minds, we know the will of God in the matter at hand.
And there are times the Holy Spirit, by the will of God, will show us things to come.
Over and over, through the years we are on this earth, the Holy Spirit brings information to us.

We receive power and information from God by HIS Spirit to deal correctly in the issues of this present life.
So we pray and wait for God to show us by HIS Spirit.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit will remind us of a scripture or a concept. Other times the Holy Spirit will remind us of a dream to show us truth.
The Holy Spirit is constantly working in the child of God to lead and to guide him in the way of God.
Romans 8:37 in all these things we are more than conquerors through HIM that loved us.
